Get to Know Your Global Board
MUG Role: Vice President
Location: Los Angeles County, CA
Q: Where are you located? Are you a member of a local/regional MUG group? If so, which one?
I live and work in Los Angeles County, California and am a member of the Mitel User Group – Americas region as well as the Global group.
Q: How long have you been on the MUG Global Board?
I began my user group involvement with the Aastra User Group (AUG) in March 2007. In April 2015, AUG voted to join Mitel User Group. I’m a founding member of the Global Mitel User Group and was voted in as the Vice President of the MUG Global Board in February 2017.
Q: Where do you work? What Mitel applications do you use on a daily basis?
I’m the “right hand” to the VP for the Division of Information Technology at California State University, Dominguez Hills. I’m responsible for the Division budget and financial planning, contracts and procurement, ADA compliance with all things technology related, Division Human Resources and professional development, am the Project Management Officer (PMO) overseeing the large scale IT projects, IT policies and best practices, IT Annual Reporting and surveys, IT Administration, partnership engagement and relations, and grants. My current title is Chief of Operations for the Division of Information Technology.
Q: What are your interests/hobbies?
I’m a self-proclaimed geek and enjoy most anything technology related, watching movies and various series on TV (e.g. Game of Thrones, Outlander, etc.), traveling to new places, and spending time with my husband and family. My favorite days are most Sundays when my husband cooks me breakfast, I stay in my PJs watching movies all day, and my husband cooks us his famous “burrito bar” for dinner. So, yes, I’m also a self-proclaimed princess and my recliner is my throne.
Q: What are your hopes for the future for the User Group? What would you like to see?
I long for the day when the MUG website becomes the hub for user interaction and engagement, much like the forums used to be “back in the day.” I hope to see more users attend the Regional and Global in-person events especially for the networking and learning benefits. I also want to urge our users to attend the webinars and virtual events as they don’t require traveling – just a bit of their time. And, if users have ideas for topics they would like us to cover, please let us know.
Q: What excites you most about the telecom/communications industry?
The ever changing telecom innovations! It’s a bit sad because many telecom techs nowadays don’t know what a spudger or butt set are or how to trace a jumper, but they definitely know about Fluke testers. This is what technology is all about – constantly discovering and learning new ways to accomplish things more efficiently, which makes telecom fun.
